Outreach Grants

The following grants have been awarded:

2004-05
  • $500 to the Bronx Opera Company for its education program, which introduces opera to public school children in the Bronx.

  • $500 to the LaByrinth Theater Company for partial support of its sign-interpreted performances of Sailor's Song by John Patrick Shanley. These funds were used to hire an interpreter and provide deeply discounted tickets for hearing-impaired patrons.

  • $500 to the Riverdale Choral Society for expenses related to the world premiere performance of James Bassi's Four Latin Psalms on May 21 ,2005.

2003-04
  • $1,000 to the Gotham Chamber Opera to help provide remuneration to promising young singers who will perform in February 2004 in the American premiere of Die schwarze Spinne (The Black Widow) by Heinrich Sutermeister.

  • $1,000 to the Bronx Arts Ensemble to support its arts-in-education programs for Bronx schools during the 2003-04 academic year.

  • $600 to David Rosenmeyer, pianist/conductor, enabling him to participate in the International Vocal Arts Institute held in Tel Aviv, Israel, in the Summer of 2003.

  • $500 to Dance as Ever for assistance in producing a series of informal studio showings of new choreography in the fall of 2004.

  • Donation to the Hoff-Barthelson Music School (in Scarsdale, NY) of a 1950 Knabe upright piano valued at $3,400.

2002
  • $2,000 to the Interfaith Committee of Remembrance for presentation of a new orchestral holocaust piece by Orlando Garcia at a concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Devine in 2003.

  • $1,000 to the Lehman College Art Gallery for workshops offered to children in public schools throughout the Bronx.

  • $1,000 to the Riverdale YM-YWHA for support of its teen theater company, the Riverdale Rising Stars.

  • $500 to the New Rochelle High School Theater Workshop for assistance to drama students participating in the American High School Theatre Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in August 2003.

  • $500 to The Colleagues Theatre Company for its scholarship program in theatrical craftsmanship.

2001
  • Donation of Kimball piano valued at $2,500 to the Westchester Conservatory of Music in White Plains, NY.

  • Grant for $1,730 to the Soesterberg International Music Festival (held in July 2001 in The Netherlands) to assist talented musicians from the United States by taking music lessons with the finest teachers and performing. The students who benefited from our grant were:

  • Taisiya Pushkar, piano
  • William McDaniel, piano
  • Adam Willumsen, viola
  • Sean Neillenger, cello
  • Noah Willumsen, cello

2000-01
  • $25,000 grant to the Westchester Conservatory of Music to establish the Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation Performing Arts Series.

  • $15,000 grant to the Anti-Defamation League for its "Youth in Unity" program that teaches tolerance through music. David Rimelis is the creator and director of this program.

  • $2,500 challenge grant to the Riverdale YM-YWHA to purchase a piano for its music school.

  • $200 grant to La Clevique Kids Opera Company for 4th and 5th graders to write and produce an original opera.
